New Nursery Mural

I just painted my friend’s nursery. She wanted silhouettes of birds and to tie in the pattern and colors of the carpet.  She won’t see it until she gets back after the new year. Can’t wait to see her reaction, and to see the room with all the furniture in place!

Handpainted Growth Charts

I finished more holiday gifts just in time to see my niece, nephew and cousins this weekend. I made growth charts to track their height as they get bigger. I remember being so excited to see if I’d gotten taller when I was a kid, and we’d mark it on a wall on my Grandma’s house. Since nobody stays in the same house for very long anymore it seems, I thought it would be fun to have a chart you could take when you move, and can be rolled up as a keepsake when the kids have grown up. They’re handpainted on canvas to match their interests and personalities. If you need a gift for a child in your life, I’m available to paint more. Spread the word!

Awards are nice

kreativ_blogger_award1

Sweet creative blogger Ria Nirwana awarded me this today. Feels good to receive something from someone appreciating what you do, and fun to have an excuse to let more people know I appreciate what they’re doing, too. Here are the Kreativ Blogger receiver rules:

1. Put the logo on their blog;
2. Put a link to the person who sent them the award;
3. Nominate 5 more blogs for the award.
So here are my nominations:
Sarah Ackerley – an up and coming children’s book author/illustrator I met at the Kid Lit Salon
Summer Pierre – writer/illustrator I discovered on the pages of Skirt! magazine
Briana Miller – comics artist/writer and illustrator I met at APE this year
Deborah Mori – graphic designer/illustrator who keeps the blog life without novacaine – love her gratitude!
Raina Telgemeier – comics artist I met at APE a few years ago – did the Babysitters Club graphic novels and now her own story Smile
All of your creativity inspires me. Thanks!!

Handmade cards

This year money is tight for a lot of folks, and I am no exception. I usually get nice holiday gifts for my dogwalking clients, but needed to do it on the cheap this time, without sacrificing thoughtfulness. So I took pictures of their dogs, played with them on Adobe Lightroom, then got some great papers and letters at my local scrapbooking store, Scrapbook Nook, and am in the process of making pages about each dog. I’ve never “scrapped” before, but am inspired by my cousin Ria, and am finding it to be really fun. I hope they like them! Here’s the four I’ve done so far:
